Many individuals, upon careful examination, discover nevus (moles) – typically dark, raised or flat, and commonly referred to as ‘ben’ – in various locations they hadn’t previously noticed. Unfortunately, they are often misinformed by those around them.

Due to the widespread belief that removing these nevus will lead to cancer, many neglect to consult a doctor, content with this incorrect information. However, consulting a dermatology or plastic surgery specialist will provide the most accurate information on this matter.

It is possible to remove many nevus, especially those on the face that are aesthetically bothersome, with simple procedures. The key is for these appropriate interventions to be performed by qualified professionals. With a properly oriented incision, removal of the nevus at the correct depth and width, and the use of an appropriate suturing technique, the patient will be relieved of the bothersome appearance.

Beyond aesthetic concerns, there is also the risk that some nevus may change over time due to various factors, potentially transforming into skin cancer. Factors such as color change, growth, itching, and exposure to trauma and sunlight warn us to remove these lesions. Lesions in areas prone to friction, such as the neck, collar line, belt line, or bra line, are particularly susceptible to continuous microtrauma. It is advisable to remove such lesions at an early stage, before significant growth occurs. This approach not only prevents potential skin cancer but also allows for the satisfactory closure of the void created by the removal of a small lesion. Another benefit is the ability to precisely determine the medical name of the excised tissue through pathological examination, thereby eliminating all uncertainties.

Minimally, protecting the area with the nevus from sunlight and not plucking any hairs on it are essential protective measures to follow.

In addition to moles, dark or light brown, flat or raised spot-like formations that we notice on our bodies over time are another source of concern. These lesions, which typically appear on sun-exposed areas like the hands and face due to the effects of sunlight and increase with age, can be eliminated with a few sessions of laser treatment. The use of an appropriate laser is fundamental to this treatment.

It is rare to find someone without dark-colored spots or formations on their body.
