Fillers are frequently used in general aesthetic surgery to address skin problems. These fillers can cause problems when produced synthetically or derived from non-human sources. However, using tissues taken from the patient’s own body is much more beneficial. Tissues taken from the patient’s own body are used in aesthetic surgeries and many other fields. Due to the stem cell properties of these tissues, they exhibit healing and regenerative effects. While this technique is frequently used for burn treatment, facial contouring, correction of leg deformities, and signs of aging in the hands, tissue injection has not been widely used in rhinoplasty. The reason for this is the thinness of the nasal skin, the almost non-existent fat layer beneath the skin, and the fact that the nasal structure consists of cartilage and bones. <\/p>\n
Rhinoplasty outcomes can sometimes result in failure for various reasons. In such cases, revision rhinoplasty is performed to correct the shape of the nose. Performing aesthetic surgery on a nose that has already been operated on is much more difficult than operating on a nose for the first time. The reason for this is that the cartilage, bones, and skin on the nose have been manipulated during the initial surgery. After every rhinoplasty, there is a decrease in the blood supply to the nose. In experienced hands, this reduction is negligible, but after rhinoplasty performed by inexperienced and careless surgeons, the quality of the nasal skin can decrease and be damaged. Such damage to the skin can pose a risk if another aesthetic surgery is performed on the nose. The skin may necrotize due to circulatory problems after surgery, which can lead to visual deformities. <\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Onur Erol and his team conducted a study examining the aesthetic effects of injecting the patient’s own fat under the nasal skin in noses with damaged skin due to previous surgeries. The results of this study revealed that repeated fat injections could offer a solution to the problem. Dr. Onur Erol’s work was published for the first time globally as an article titled \u201cMicrofat Grafting in Nasal Surgery\u201d in the American Aesthetic Surgery Journal (Aesthetic Surgery Journal. July 2014 34: 671-686). For this research, fat injection was performed under the nasal skin of 313 patients whose nasal aesthetics were impaired and skin damaged due to rhinoplasty undergone within a 5-year period. In patients with mild deformities, 1 to 3 injections provided sufficient improvement. In patients exhibiting numerous and advanced irregularities, 3 to 6 fat grafting sessions were required, and a high success rate was achieved in this group of patients as well. In another group of patients with more severe, revision-level skin damage, 6 to 16 fat grafting sessions were needed to achieve sufficient improvement. The results showed great success in repairing skin damage. This study demonstrated that deformities in aesthetically compromised noses can be safely and effectively corrected with fat taken from the patient’s own body. <\/p>\n
In this method, fat is harvested from the patient. Considering that the sessions will be repeated several times, a larger amount of fat is taken from the patient, and the remaining fat is stored by freezing using special methods. The harvested fat is injected under the patient’s nasal skin with the help of a special cannula. <\/p>\n
