Prof. Dr. Onur Erol, globally recognized for the rhinoplasty technique he developed and introduced to medical literature as “Turkish Delight,” was appointed president of the “Rhinoplasty Society,” which brings together experts from the USA and Europe.
The association, whose presidents have all been American plastic surgery specialists until now, elected a non-American expert as president for the “first” time.
The “Rhinoplasty Society,” which has approximately 200 members in countries such as the USA, UK, France, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and India, requires physicians to have at least 5 years of experience as plastic surgery specialists and a sufficient number of international publications for membership. New members are only accepted by invitation from existing distinguished members.
EROL TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT FOR 2 YEARS
In a statement to an AA correspondent, Prof. Dr. Onur Erol stated that he was appointed to the presidency of the association due to his ongoing academic work, articles published in prestigious medical journals worldwide, and clinical studies, in addition to the various surgical methods he introduced to medical literature. Erol stated that the USA is considered the cradle and center of plastic surgery, and the Rhinoplasty Society is one of the most respected organizations in this field, adding, “The appointment of a Turkish physician to head an international association is a success for Turkish plastic surgery. This demonstrates to the world that scientists in Turkey are undertaking very important work.”
Erol emphasized that in recent years, Turkish physicians have achieved successful work in many areas of medicine and have received global recognition, stating, “The world’s attention has turned to Turkey with the methods we have contributed to the literature and the gratifying results we have achieved from risky operations.
I see this success as a reward for the work of Turkish physicians. I am honored that a Turkish scientist has been appointed to the presidency of the association for the first time.”
Erol stated that his presidency of the association will last for two years, and during this period, he will “work to ensure that more plastic surgery specialists from Turkey are accepted into the association, publicize scientific studies conducted in Turkey to the world, and organize congresses and symposiums in the field of plastic surgery.”
