Contour Your Face with the Youth Pen

BUGÜN NEWSPAPER – April 16, 2014

The Youth Pen, an application that synthesizes microdermabrasion and mesotherapy, combining agents that work to renew the skin from the inside and out in a single device, is one of the most popular ‘youth weapons’ of recent times. Dr. Hilal Gökalp stated that the Youth Pen consists of 6 steel needles on the E-dermastamp device and a reservoir that scans to deposit anti-aging products needed by the skin. She said, “The E-dermastamp device, which resembles a pen tip, has needles ranging from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm in length, and the length is chosen according to the individual’s needs for the application. With these needles, 50 to 150 strokes per second are applied to the skin for a dermabrasion effect.” We spoke with Dr. Gökalp about the method, which emphasizes that anti-aging or anti-spot products that provide the skin’s necessary moisture are placed in the Youth Pen’s product reservoir and simultaneously delivered to the skin to enhance the effect.

What is the difference between this method and other procedures?
It simultaneously offers the effect of mesotherapy applications that support the skin from within. After needle length and number of strokes, a cocktail of products to be delivered to the skin is created according to the individual’s needs and absorbed by the skin. Another difference from other applications is that it is enhanced with products produced with nanotechnology, designed to remove spots, reduce wrinkles, alleviate dark circles and edema, etc. As is known, strengthening the skin with externally applied vitamins and hyaluronic acids achieves limited success due to the strong skin barrier. Growth factors, herbal stem cell extracts, vitamins, and serums reaching the deep underlying layers of the skin through the small channels opened by the Youth Pen increase the success of the method and the permanence of the results.

Where is it used?
For the removal of acne scars (mild-moderate, deep, and very deep), for the removal of spots, for reducing the appearance of mild-deep wrinkles, for tightening pores in skin with large pores, for alleviating stretch marks, for reducing hair loss, for alleviating scars formed after burns, for reducing the appearance of cellulite.

How long does the effect last, and how many sessions are required?
The micro-channels created by the Youth Pen E-dermastamp generally close within 15-30 minutes thanks to the skin’s elasticity. Complete closure of the channel can take several hours. For problem-free skin, solely for maintenance and rejuvenation purposes, 3 sessions are recommended; for spots, 6 sessions; and for acne, wound, or burn scars, 8 or more sessions are advised.

What is felt after the application?
There is almost no pain during the application, so no anesthetic cream is needed. Skin redness disappears within 30-45 minutes after the application. The individual can continue their daily life, including on the day of the application. The most important point not to be overlooked is the regular use of sunscreen creams.

What are its differences from anti-aging laser applications?
The advantages of this application are that it is an affordable procedure when comparing its benefits to its cost, the risk of side effects is minimal, it can be applied to small areas like around the eyes where lasers cannot be used, and it can be applied to all skin types.
