It is incorrect to generalize that every patient will experience nasal depression after rhinoplasty. In fact, nasal bone collapse, complete nasal collapse, or nasal rim collapse are not common occurrences after rhinoplasty performed by an experienced plastic surgeon.
Nasal depression after rhinoplasty is more often a complication experienced after major deviation surgery. Major deviation surgery involves correcting curvatures in the cartilage and bone structures beneath the cartilage. During such an intervention, a depression may occur in the area behind the nasal tip due to reduced support in that region. To prevent this depression, sufficient cartilage must be added to the area.
