Turkish Delight is a rhinoplasty technique developed by Onur Erol that has gained international recognition. The initial Turkish Delight technique was first applied in 1990 to a patient whose nose had been compromised after multiple previous rhinoplasty procedures performed by other surgeons. Onur Erol waited three years to observe the long-term results of surgeries performed with this technique before presenting it at the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS). When these results were presented by Onur Erol, many attendees, including the world-renowned plastic surgeon Marchac (whom we unfortunately lost last year, a truly great individual), requested to speak and said, “I performed this method on 4 of my patients, mmmm Turkish Delight.” Onur Erol was very pleased with this comment and decided to name the method “Turkish Delight” instead of “Dr. Erol’s method.” Onur Erol has presented this method by receiving invitations to speak about the technique at numerous congresses held in America and Europe. Furthermore, this technique has been published as a scientific article using the name Turkish Delight.
In patients with sensitive and thin nasal skin, when cartilage is placed using conventional methods, the cartilage becomes visible, and although more cartilage is added to correct it, the desired result is still not achieved. Considering what could be done to prevent these protrusions, Onur Erol devised a method: instead of placing cartilage as a whole, the harvested cartilage is finely diced, wrapped with “surgicel” (an absorbable material) to prevent dispersion, and then placed under the nasal skin. After shaping it as desired, a bandage and cast are applied to achieve the final result. This method ensures that there is no deterioration even after many years.
Many doctors from different countries visited Onep to observe Onur Erol’s surgeries, eager to learn this method. For a group of British doctors, the technique was explained through a live broadcast surgery as a technical course. Additionally, Dr. Erol has demonstrated the Turkish Delight Technique through live surgeries to renowned plastic surgeons from various countries at congresses. The Turkish Delight technique is a widely used method in rhinoplasty by many plastic surgeons worldwide.
